Farm Risk Management Between Normal Business Risk and Climatic/Market Shocks AgEcon
Cordier, Jean.
Farm risk management for income stabilization is on-going issue. An applied work has been performed to measure farm risk using a stochastic model. Risk management tools, with symmetric as well as asymmetric impacts, are then tested and compared through ad hoc statistics. Normal farm business risk can be efficiently managed using a precautionary saving provision. Farm revenue insurance is found as the most efficient asymmetric tool for dealing with climatic and market shocks. The linkage between these complementary tools can be adjusted upon market environment.

Reconciling Actors' Preferences in Agricultural Policy - Towards a New Management of Public Decisions AgEcon
Jesus, Franck; Bourgeois, Robin.
To attain sustainable development in the 21st century, the world's population still has to overcome many challenges; hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and depletion. Policy design in such a context is and will remain a complex task. On one hand, policy makers often lack information on stakeholders' strategies and constraints as well as on potential options for improvement. On the other hand, stakeholders do not always adhere to policies for lack of understanding of the pursued goals. It is not unusual to observe that often, real policy effects are not those initially expected. Furthermore, existing decision-making mechanisms for public intervention are increasingly questioned due to pressure for market liberalization, decentralization processes...

SOME ASPECTS OF ACCOUNTING AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING DURING ECOCONOMIC DOWNTURNS AgEcon
Dekan, Tamas.
Economic slowdown and downturn creates new situation for every organisation, no one can avoid facing to new situation created by the global financial-, and economic crisis. All of the organisational function should reconsider its own role within the company due to the new circumstances, Accounting and Mangement Accounting can not be exception, but they have more complex and emphasized role in these difficult times. In the following paper I can not avoid to mention some general statement about importance of accounting and accounting principles, while there are a number of critical accounting and financial reporting issues that accountants and auditors should consider. In the framework of the paper I can not face with all relevant issues of the topic, but...

Tools and constraints in monitoring interactions between marine litter and megafauna: Insights from case studies around the world ArchiMer
Claro, F; Fossi, Mc; Ioakeimidis, C; Baini, M; Lusher, Al; Mc Fee, W; Mcintosh, Rr; Pelmatti, T; Sorce, M; Galgani, Francois; Hardesky, Bd.
Adverse impacts of marine litter is documented on >1400 species, including marine megafauna (fish, birds, sea turtles and mammals). The primary impacts include ingestion and entanglement, and there is increasing concern about chemical contamination via ingestion. Numerous survey approaches and monitoring programs have been developed and implemented around the world. They may aim to provide data about parameters such as species distribution and interactions with anthropogenic activities. During the Sixth International Marine Debris Conference, a session was dedicated to the tools and constraints in monitoring interactions between litter and megafauna. In the present paper, we summarize 7 case studies which discuss entanglement and ingestion including...

Concerned decision makers increasingly pose questions as to whether current management practices are able to cope with climate change and increased climate variability. This signifies a shift in the framing of climate change from asking what its potential impacts are to asking whether it induces policy failure and unacceptable change. In this paper, we explore the background, feasibility, and consequences of this new framing. We focus on the specific situation in which a social-political threshold of concern is likely to be exceeded as a result of climate change, requiring consideration of alternative strategies. Action is imperative when such a situation is conceivable, and at this point climate change becomes particularly relevant to decision makers. We...
